Claiming such historically rich and geographically splendid landscapes as the areas of Dumfries and Galloway, Edinburgh and Northumberland, it is understandable that the inhabitants of this vast region have a proud sense of heritage. Once an area of much conflict between the Scottish and English nations during the Wars of Independence, the countryside is now pitted with an abundance of historic Castles, Abbeys and Buildings.
We consider the Scottish Borders an attractive destination for anyone with an interest in history. Architectural interest comes from the Priory at Lindisfarne, owned by English Heritage, to the literary splendour of Abbotsford House, the erstwhile residence of Sir Walter Scott, to any one of the many magnificent buildings which have played a significant role in the country’s history.
